Adam Sandler is not listed in the screenplay credits of 50 First Dates. He rewrote it anyway.
Columbia Pictures bought a spec script in 2002 called Fifty First Kisses. It was set in rainy Seattle and written as a drama. Sandler came on as a producer, moved the whole thing to Hawaii, switched the genre to romantic comedy, and brought in a team of additional uncredited writers. He also killed the original title. Research showed the word 'kisses' in the title was turning off male moviegoers.
His father, Stanley Sandler, died in September 2003 while the film was in production. 50 First Dates came out the following February. The dedication in the credits is the only trace of it in the finished film.
Knowing that, the credits land differently.
