Backrooms is still in theaters. A24 released it in May and it became the studio's highest-grossing film ever, with $301 million worldwide on a $10 million budget.
The director is Kane Parsons. He started the Backrooms YouTube series as a teenager under the name Kane Pixels. This is his feature debut. He is 20 years old.
At 88 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, it drew comparisons to Eraserhead and The Shining. Critics praised Chiwetel Ejiofor's performance and the production design: 30,000 square feet of physical sets built to recreate the internet horror legend.
If you have fallen down the Backrooms rabbit hole online, this film was made for you. If you have not, the movie explains it.
