Sora Wong had zero acting credits when Danny Philippou found her through a Facebook casting post. She plays Piper in Bring Her Back. She also actually has coloboma and microphthalmia, the same conditions as the character she plays on screen. The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts nominated her for Best Supporting Actress.
Philipou made this film while grieving. He and his brother lost a close friend right at the start of preproduction and had no time to process it. The film changed. They changed the ending. A24 released them from their contractual obligation to make Talk to Me 2 to allow this instead.
The sound design includes audio of Philippou actually biting a real knife.
