The Death of Robin Hood is in theaters from A24. Michael Sarnoski directed it. He made Pig. Same register: quiet, dark, driven by character, violent when it earns it.
Hugh Jackman plays an aged Robin, gravely wounded after his last battle, who takes shelter in a priory. Not a hero. A broken man who has spent decades killing and cannot outrun it. Jodie Comer plays the prioress who takes him in. Bill Skarsgård plays Little John.
67 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, but every review agrees on Jackman. He disappears into this role in a way he has not done since Logan.
Before you go, watch Pig. Same director, same patience, same refusal to give you what you expect.
Hugh Jackman doing A24 medieval is not the summer movie anyone saw coming. It is the one worth finding.
