Lil Rel Howery directed his first film. It opens Friday.
You know him from Get Out and Free Guy. For Haunted Heist he got behind the camera for the first time. Before shooting he sought out mentorship from Ava DuVernay and Sean Levy. Then he shot the whole thing in 18 days at Berry Gordy's mansion in Detroit.
The story: four friends plan to steal a $20 million ceremonial dagger from a house. The house is haunted by ghosts from the Jim Crow era who have their own plans for the group. Howery stars alongside Tiffany Haddish, Karlous Miller, and Andrew Bachelor. He specifically wanted to cast stand-up comics who act, not comedic actors.
Haunted Heist is rated R and opens Friday in select theaters. If you like Get Out, this is from someone who was in that film and decided to make his own.
