Her Private Hell opens Thursday. Nicolas Winding Refn had a cardiac arrest before he shot a single frame. He was clinically dead for about 30 minutes. Doctors revived him with a defibrillator.

He made a movie about it.

Her Private Hell is his first theatrical feature since The Neon Demon in 2016. It stars Sophie Thatcher as a young woman searching for her father through a neon city built on fog. The whole film was shot in Copenhagen on green screens. There was no real script. Refn improvised scenes with his cast over dinner and shot them the next day.

It premiered at Cannes and got a long standing ovation and significant walkouts at the same screening.

If you liked Drive or The Neon Demon, this is your Thursday. It's on 800 screens.
