Manhunter is in theaters this week. Michael Mann restored it in 4K for its 40th anniversary and is calling it the Final Cut. He oversaw the color grading himself and calls it "the version of the film I'm most satisfied with."

Here's what most people don't know. The first time Hannibal Lecter appeared on screen, Anthony Hopkins wasn't involved. Brian Cox played the character in this film in 1986. The name is spelled "Lecktor" here. Cox plays him cold and still, no theatrics. Manhunter bombed at the box office. Then Silence of the Lambs came out and Hopkins became the face of the character. Cox was largely forgotten.

If you've seen Silence of the Lambs, watch this before you forget it's in theaters. Same character. Completely different read on him.
