Motor City opens Thursday with about five lines of dialogue. Not a gimmick. A creative decision.
Director Potsy Ponciroli wanted to tell a revenge story through action, emotion, and music alone. The script, written by Chad St. John, landed on the 2009 Black List and spent over a decade without getting made. Ponciroli finally shot it in 2023.
Alan Ritchson plays the ex-convict who walks out of prison and goes after the man who framed him. Ben Foster plays that man. The two of them carry a 103-minute film with almost nothing said between them. Jack White curated the soundtrack.
If you liked Drive, this is the movie to see this weekend. It's set in 1970s Detroit and it does not want to explain itself to you.
