A nurse lies on a table as a bearded older man holds a phone receiver close to her face in a dimly lit interior scene from Night Nurse

Georgia Bernstein's debut Night Nurse opens July 10 after earning 76% on Rotten Tomatoes at Sundance this January. Cemre Paksoy plays a nurse at a serene retirement community who becomes entangled with her mysterious patient Douglas (Bruce McKenzie) as perverse scam calls begin unsettling the residents around them.

Critics are calling it a fascinating character study suggesting an early Atom Egoyan film with notes of Michael Haneke. The pacing is deliberate and the dread is quiet. Mimi Rogers co-stars alongside Eléonore Hendricks.

If your taste runs toward psychosexual slow burns, put this on your calendar. Bernstein cites David Cronenberg's Crash as a major inspiration and that lineage is visible in every frame.

Watch Before You Go: Cronenberg's Crash (1996) or The Piano Teacher (2001).
