Romería is in theaters from Janus Films. Carla Simón directed it. It opened June 26.
Marina has her late mother's diary. She travels to Vigo to find documents for a college scholarship, but what starts as paperwork becomes a search for her biological father and everything her mother never told her. The film moves between Marina in 2004 and her mother's 1983 diary entries. Llúcia Garcia plays Marina. Tristán Ulloa also stars.
91 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. The AV Club calls it mournful without breaking down into sobs, tragic without twisting into melodrama.
