Romería is in US limited theaters from Janus Films. It is the new film from Carla Simón, who won the Golden Bear at Berlin for Alcarràs.

Simón made this one about her own life. Marina is 18 years old when she travels to Vigo to fix a document for a university application. She ends up meeting her father's family for the first time. Her parents died of AIDS. The film does not look away from that. Llúcia Garcia plays Marina, and it is her first major role. She is remarkable.

If you liked Alcarràs or Summer 1993, this is exactly that. Quiet, intimate, earned. The kind of film that does not insist on your emotions but finds them anyway.

Before you go: Alcarràs. 2022, Carla Simón. The Golden Bear. The one that proved she was building something.
