Daniel Craig offered Sam Mendes the Bond directing job at a Christmas party hosted by Hugh Jackman. Craig had been drinking. The thought occurred to him mid-conversation, so he just said it.

His words, per Craig: 'I'm probably not supposed to say this, but do you want to direct the next Bond movie?' Mendes said yes. Craig's immediate follow-up thought: 'I'm in shit now.'

The next morning Craig called producer Barbara Broccoli: 'I think I might have offered Sam Mendes the next movie.' She liked it. Mendes was the first Oscar-winning director ever hired for Bond.

The Skyfall estate was a real structure, built in Surrey and actually demolished with 150 stacks of dynamite. Debris flew 200 feet.

The first Bond to gross a billion dollars. It keeps landing in lists for a reason.
