Na Hong-jin made The Wailing in 2016. That was his last film before Hope.

NYAFF is screening it this Sunday at SVA Theatre. The 9:30 PM showing is one night only.

The film follows a village policeman whose daughter falls under a mysterious illness after a stranger arrives in town. It goes somewhere most horror films won't. Hwang Jung-min, who you will see in Hope, plays a shaman. Jun Kunimura plays the stranger. It is 156 minutes and you will not feel them.

If you are seeing Hope at NYAFF on Monday, this is the warmup. If you are not going to NYAFF, find it before you see Hope. Na Hong-jin made two films in his career. Watch them in order.

Before this: The Chaser (2008).
